Do these organ donation statistics shock you? Everyone always says that they want to donate but there are two things you must do to make this lifesaving gift possible.
1. You must register ✨✍️
www.donatelife.gov.au/register-donor-today
You can also register via your myGov account or via the Express Plus Medicare app.
2. Tell you next of kin.✨👨👩👧👦
Although a decision join this register is a legally valid decision to donate your organs, in practice if your family strongly feel that they cannot support donation, despite staff answering their questions and concerns, the donation doesn’t go ahead. That is why it’s vital to tell your family that you want to be a donor.
Another interesting fact is there is no set age limit exists for organ donation. At the time of death, the potential donor's organs are evaluated to determine their suitability for donation. Individuals in their 80s and 90s have successfully donated organs including liver and kidneys to save the lives of others.
Look out for out next post where I will list the benefits of organ donation. ✨💖
